Abstract

ABSTRACT

Background: Patients with end-stage Chronic Kidney Failure (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis therapy often experience anxiety due to the complex disease condition and dependence on therapy. Anxiety that is not well managed can negatively impact the patient's quality of life.

Objective: Deep breathing relaxation techniques have been widely studied as a non-pharmacological method that can help reduce anxiety.

Method: The method used was observational before and after the intervention, namely breathing relaxation techniques. The subjects of the study were patients with stage V CKD undergoing hemodialysis. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the deep breathing relaxation intervention for two consecutive days.

Results: In both patients who participated in this program, a decrease in anxiety could be observed both subjectively and objectively. Their initial anxiety, which is usually measured using an anxiety scale tool such as the HARS (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale), showed a significant decrease after the application of deep breathing relaxation techniques.

Conclusion: Deep breathing relaxation techniques are effective in reducing anxiety in hemodialysis patients. It is hoped that nurses will provide more support to patients so that patients can use relaxation techniques as a strategy to reduce patient anxiety.
