Hubungan Karakteristik Demografi dan Self-Determination dengan Kualitas Hidup Pasien Hemodialisa di Rumah Sakit Panti Rapih

Abstract

Background: Chronic renal failure (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis face various physical and psychological challenges that impact their quality of life. Demographic characteristics and self-determination are important factors that influence knowledge about hemodialysis, medication adherence, and level of self-management.

Objective: To determine the relationship between demographic characteristics and self-determination with the quality of life of hemodialysis patients.

Methods: This study is a non-experimental quantitative study using descriptive correlation method. The total sample was 112 respondents who underwent routine hemodialysis twice a week in July in the hemodialysis room of Panti Rapih Hospital.

Result: The results of this study identified that the majority of respondents were male (67.9%,), late adulthood (53.6%), the last level of high school education (46.4%), not working (47.3%), middle class economic income (38.4%), length of hemodialysis >2-5 years (66%), hypertension comorbidity (72.3%). The majority of respondents had high self-determination (83%) and good quality of life (49.1%). There is no relationship between demographic characteristics of respondents with self determination (p-value>0.05). There is no relationship between demographic characteristics and quality of life, and there is a relationship between comorbidities and quality of life. There is a significant relationship between self determination and quality of life with a p-value (0.008).

Conclusion: Self-determination is significantly associated with the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. Nurses are advised to introduce hemodialysis patients to join the hemodialysis patient community in order to create high social support and can strengthen a good level of self-determination which will have an impact on a good level of quality of life.
