Pengaruh Senam Lansia Terhadap Penurunan Tekanan Darah Pada Lansia Hipertensi di Kabupaten Sleman
Abstract
Background : Hypertension is a common health issue among the elderly, resulting from physiological changes that reduce blood vessel elasticity and increase the risk of complications such as stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, and a decline in quality of life. One non-pharmacological measure to help control blood pressure is exercise for the elderly, which improves physical fitness, blood circulation, and cardiovascular system function.
Objectives : This study aimed to determine the effect of exercise for the elderly on blood pressure reduction among hypertensive seniors in Sleman Regency.
Methods: A quantitative, quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach was employed. Consecutive sampling was used to select 50 respondents, who were divided into
intervention and control groups.
Results :Analysis using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the intervention and control groups.
Conclusions : The study found a significant effect of exercise for the elderly on blood pressure reduction among hypertensive seniors in Sleman Regency. As exercise for the elderly contributes to lowering blood pressure in hypertensive seniors, it is recommended as an effective non-pharmacological intervention to help control blood pressure, prevent hypertension-related complications, and improve the quality of life for the elderly.
